As we all celebrate Pam's gift of laughter, thank you Ms. Gilmour, for acknowledging that Pam also had deep pain in her life. I don't know you, but I'm very sorry about your sister. I'm also not surprised that Pam tried to reach out to her. It takes an underdog to root for one. With the loss of Pam, the underdog has lost a friend. But her spirit lives on to scrap another day.

Hello Mrs. Rykert, As a fellow class of '81 girl, I too share Kim's shock and sadness. Many of us have expressed the disbelief through emails this week. Pam lived across the street from me on Moore Avenue for a time, when my boys were very young. It was fun to see her again after all those years away from school days. Very Best wishes to all of you. Fondly, Michele Hunter

Dear Carol, Liz, Serena and John, I want to extend my deep sympathy for your loss. I know that Pam’s huge heart, tenderness, kindness, thoughtfulness and truth-speaking had a life-impacting effect on anyone who met or knew her. It is certainly true for me, I can’t even imagine what my life would have been like if I had been deprived of the opportunity to know her, to be a part of her life, and her a part of mine. Her infectious laughter, sharp outrageous wit, incredible generosity and “hostess with the mostess” hospitality brought together, and unified people from all walks of life. Pam possessed one of the most original minds I have ever encountered. Her creativity, vision, perceptions of the world and people were truly unique, hilarious, thought-provoking and inspiring. Whatever her interests, they became the interests of her friends because of her passion and enthusiasm. Everyone that was brought together by Pam at CJC and after, we partied, laughed, cried, argued, forgave, debated, explored, loved - we lived, so much of the formative years our lives together. And Pam was the conductor, the pied-piper, the hub and glue that held us together. Thank you Pam, I will miss you – yet, you will always be with me, so much of who I am is because of you.

I'm very sorry to hear that Pam passed away. I knew Pam when we were youngsters and fondly remember her warm and sparkling character. She was always fun to be around and invariably kind to myself and others; virtues for which I am grateful and will always remember her for. With sincere condolences and best wishes, Ian

To the Rykert Family, I am shocked and incredibly saddened at hearing of the loss of Pam...I have run in to her over the past couple of years down on Queen W,and that was always an unexpected treat...when my sister was ill I know that Pam reached out to her with no success...but with both their passings exactly a month to the day apart, I hope that they can find peace together and rekindle whatever it is they lost...I could not attend the celebration today, but my condolences to all of you and my thoughts are with you today and in the future. Love Charlene

To the Rykerts, I'm so very sorry to hear of the loss of Pam. The last time I saw her was a few years ago when she had a fine exhibit of her photography at The Gladstone Hotel. She seemed proud of her achievement, and rightly so. I knew her from our CJC days - she, Nanci Somerville, Jim Warren, and I formed a merry little group. (Even in a school of misfits we were misfits!) We got into much mischief and shared much laughter. From the other tributes here, it's clear that laughter was a great theme of Pam's life. That's how I'll remember her most - laughing with others, and enjoying herself. With my sympathies, Robin

Breaking new tracks on snowshoes in the early morning, shooting incredible photography, learning to drive at the farm, laughing with friends on the dock during a lazy summer afternoon, portaging canoes with an indelible spirit... These are my fondest memories of Pam, a woman whose generosity, humour and uniqueness endeared her to all. Her laughter lives on. Deb Gooding, Vancouver BC

Like Pam's posted picture, she brings a gentle smile to my face remembering all the hilarious things we got up to as young adults from our days at Canadian Junior College. I am saddened by Pam's death, but I am so very appreciative to remember the absolute wonderful times we had together. Pam was the unifying force for us all... in essence the mother hen. She was good, kind and supportive to us. She was very accepting of her friends, their dreams, their attributes and their interesting personalities. Pam was both supportive and forgiving. She was an unquestioning benefactor to many of her friends, through her open friendship and through her kindness of financial support towards their aspirations. Pam never asked for anything in return. Pam was eclectic in her personality and life, which was reflected by her many friends from a wide circle. She was there in the special times, the good times and the difficult times. Our tight group had a theme of partying, a theme of well thought out pranks, heaps of laughter, more partying and celebrating each others victories. Pam was part of the team. She was the unifying force for us all. Pam gave us our sanctuary to be ourselves. Like so many others we reflect back over the year's and think of some of the things Pam did... while we were at school together, at Poplar Plains Rd., Cottingham Street, Collingwood and Temagami - we always had fun - laughter generally filled the air. She pulled off some beautiful stints in true amazement. And, Pam introduced us to many things such as new music, her family's place in Collingwood and at the Cottage, a more liberal way of thinking about life and the joy of sharing in her generosity. I'd say Pam had a great life and a successful one as a great friend and person. Everyone deserves a little bit of Pam in their life... she was akin to being an "Auntie Mame". She shared in the wonderment of life.

I met Pam when we were in Grade 7 at BSS, during her stints in boarding. I have many memories of trips to "the village" after school, eating pizza and sharing some pretty great practical jokes. I will always remember Pam's smiling face, the sound of her laugh and her very keen wit. She was great fun to be with. My sincerest condolences to the family.

I will fondly remember Pam's laughter and keen sense of humour. I knew Pam from her days at BSS and then once again when she went to Ryerson for photography. We had a great time catching up before our BSS 25th reunion in Sept. 2006. Unfortunately, Pam did not make the reunion because she was celebrating her 45th birthday. At times like this, we can't help remembering how fragile life is.. May you find strength in the love of family and in the embrace of friends. In deepest sympathy.. Kim Pettit, Old BSS friend

When I first met Pam it was probably from the other side of a camera. Thanks to Pam we have all been rendered in black and white, sepia tone, duo tone, multi image, infrared and the beloved Poloroid. In her attempts to capture our images she captured our attention, respect and our hearts. Many of us were lucky enough to turn the camera toward her, once in a while. Pam's unique character was welcomed where ever she went. Over the many years I lived in Montreal we could count on a visit from Pam at least once a year. Everyone there looked forward to her visits and it was not only for her charming take on the French Canadian accent. None of us can say we did not laugh at the many voices of Pam. Where ever Pam was, her family was never far from her thoughts. My deepest sympathies to all of you.
