Obituary of James Careless

CARELESS, James Maurice Stockford, Ph.D. The foremost Canadian historian of his generation, died on April 6th, 2009 in Toronto. Born in Toronto on Febrary 17, 1919, Maurice taught for 39 years at the University of Toronto, retiring in 1984 as University Professor Emeritus. Maurice is survived by his beloved wife Betty; five children: Anthony (Sue), Virginia, Richard (Dona), Andrea (Doug), and James (Sue); and ten grandchildren: Jonathan, Jill, Philip, Anne, Sheena, Tara, Dylan, Teagan, Robin and Leah. His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 15th at TRINITY COLLEGE CHAPEL, 6 Hoskin Avenue, followed by a reception at Massey College.
