Obituary of Marie Thompson

Marie Ella Thompson (nee Taylor) March 29, 1937 - March 30, 2009 Peacefully at home, in Toronto, surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Beloved wife of Edward for 50 years. Loving mother of Stephen (Gitta), Cheryl (Anthony), Christopher (Alison) and Caryn (Jason). Devoted grandmother to Joshua, Norris, James, Elizabeth, Julia and Simon. Marie was born and raised in Windermere, Ontario. Loving daughter of Ora and the late Horace Taylor and special sister to Ken (Irene) and Marilyn (the late Joerg) and sister-in-law of Marlene (the late Paul). She was loved and admired by her nine nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends. Marie and Ed met at high school in Bracebridge in 1954 and had their first date on the night of Hurricane Hazel. The chemistry was right and they were a couple from then on, marrying at Windermere on September 27, 1958, while Ed was still at University of Toronto. They purchased their home on Moore Avenue in Toronto in April 1960 and remained there ever since. Marie was a loving mother and wife, and a renowned hostess. She always thought of others before herself. She leaves a large hole in many lives. The family would like to thank the staff at Princess Margaret Hospital and all the other caregivers for their compassionate care. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1st. Funeral service will be held at YORKMINSTER PARK BAPTIST CHURCH, 1585 Yonge Street (at Heath) on Thursday, April 2nd at 11 o'clock.
