Elizabeth Tytler

Obituary of Elizabeth Tytler

TYTLER, Elizabeth Mary "Betty" (nee Osbourne) Peacefully at Belmont House, Toronto on February 27, 2009 after a twenty year struggle with dementia. Beloved wife of the late Donald Tytler and dear mother to John, Ian and Meg all of Toronto. She is survived by her brother Terry and his wife Margaret Osbourne of Cambridge. Betty was born January 2, 1927 to William Andrew Osbourne and Isobel Watt and grew up in Galt, Ontario. In her youth she attended Galt Collegiate and then Branksome Hall and graduated from the University of Toronto in 1948. Many wonderful lifelong friendships were formed during these years. Before her marriage, she worked in the hospital administration course at the University of Toronto and was personnel officer at The Princess Margaret Hospital when it first opened. Betty dedicated her life to her children. She loved gardening, art, going to the symphony with friends and summers in Muskoka. A member of the Crescent School Ladies Guild, she organized two highly successful fundraising art shows at the school. She was a very intelligent and accomplished woman with a wonderful smile and sense of humour, and will be fondly remembered by her family and friends. For the past fifteen years Betty has been a loved member of the Belmont House community. These few words do not begin to express the gratitude her family feels for the comfort, care, love and respect Betty received throughout these years at Belmont House from all the staff, her private duty caregivers, and volunteers. She left us with a smile on her face and that special twinkle in her eye due to all the kindness and attention afforded her. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, March 6. The funeral service will be held in the chapel at 1 o'clock on Saturday, March 7. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Belmont House Foundation, 55 Belmont Street, Toronto, ON M5R 1R1, would be appreciated by the family. Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com. Mom, through all the struggles that have beset you in life, may you rest in well deserved peace.
