Obituary of Walter Gibson

Walter Harry Gibson, M.M. 1918 - 2009 Walter passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 28th, 2009 at Sunnybrook Hospital in his 91st year. Beloved husband of Iris for 65 years, loving father of Beverley (John) Percival and Wayne (Valerie) Gibson, grandchildren Eric, Lianne and Caitlin Percival, Sean, Christine and Steven Gibson and Shridhar Chander Shekhar. He leaves his sister Lauretta Stinson and sister-in-law Freda Phaneuf. Originally from Montreal, Walter's distinguished career included WWII service in Iceland and England with Les Fusiliers Mont Royal Regiment of Montreal. He was decorated with the Military Medal (M.M.) for bravery at the Dieppe raid in August 1942. The family would like to acknowledge and thank the dedicated doctors, nurses and staff at the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre for their kind support. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. on Thursday March 5th. The Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Friday, March 6th at 3 p.m., followed by a reception in the Rosedale Room.
