Debra and Ted: Don't know how to find the words to tell you how very very sad we feel when thinking of what you are going through. We never met Ian. Yet from what Laura has told us, he was as wonderful a son as anyone could ever wish for. You created a warm, exciting, and rich life for him, and he evolved into an outstanding young man of whom you will always be very proud. You and your other wonderful young men -- Spencer and Jeremy -- will have so many fabulous memories of how well he lived his life. Please know that we are thinking of you. Debra and Ted, There is no greater gift in this world than our children. What miracles they are! How lucky are we to be able to share time with them. I'm sure the little guy we knew when I left Toronto in 1990 has given you many wonderful memories as a grown up son. This must be one of the biggest challenges the two of you have ever encountered, and I'm sure you will celebrate the peaks and valleys of this journey, this Everest. Know that we celebrate it with you, and love the both of you very much. Michael and Michelle

Dear Debra & Ted, I was so sorry to learn of Ian's passing. I only met him a couple of times as Second Harvest's volunteer coordinator, but in the moments that I knew him, I could see he was a deeply caring and spirited young man. There are not many teenage boys that come to volunteer with their Mom on a sunny Saturday afternoon! My deepest sympathies and condolences are with you during this sad and difficult time. Sincerely, Jennifer Verschraegen

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone who loved Ian for a million different reasons. As his Don at Queen's, I have many fond memories of his first year. He made me laugh constantly and was always friendly and easygoing. At the end of the year he slid a thank you card under my door which was indicative of his character. What a stellar guy. I feel privileged to know him and will miss him dearly.
