Obituary of Jean Paul

UL, Jean Raeburn (nee McLaughlin) Passed away in a tragic accident on February 2, 2009 at the age of 85. Jean's early years were spent in Winnipeg with summers at Lake of the Woods. She moved to Toronto to attend Havergal College. At the University of Toronto she met and married the love of her life, John Woodrow Paul. They were together until John died in April 2002. Their five children - Roy (Susan), Louise (Ivor), Ken (Elsie), Julie (Terry), and George -- will miss her deeply together with their own families including six grandchildren: Katie, Jamie (and their mother Margaret), Whitney, David, Spencer (and his mother Nicola) and Olivia. Both Jean and John gave their children every opportunity and let them determine their own paths. No matter where she was, Jean would always make a friend, stopping to say hello, to offer help, or for no reason other than her great curiosity about people's lives and the ways of the world. To those who knew her and to her children and their families she was always there to help - a problem solver with a wealth of knowledge to share. She gardened, sewed, learned carpentry and mastered the computer. She kept herself informed on a wide range of subjects from the technological world right through to her love of nature and animals. Over the years the Paul household included dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters and fish. At her beloved island on Lake of the Woods, she loved to watch the sunrise and sunset, explore the lake, listen to the loons and never ceased her battle against undergrowth, beavers and dead wood. She did it all, and amazed us all. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Eglinton Avenue East) from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 17th. A service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving for Jean's life will be held on Wednesday, February 18th at 11:30 a.m. at THE ANGLICAN CHURCH OF ST. CLEMENT, 59 Briar Hill Avenue. If desired, the family would appreciate donations to charity of one's choice. Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
