Obituary of Dorothea McRae

McRAE, Dorothea M. (nee Mattson)Died on Sunday, January 25, 2009. Loving wife of the Hon. Nicholson McRae. Dear mother of Thomas (Catherine Hartleib), Martha (Shane O'Neill) and Janet (Tom Wells). Doting Momma to Sarah, Daniel, Matthew and Alexander McRae, Madeleine and Thomas O'Neill and Nicholson, Kyra and Steven Wells. She also leaves three sisters and one brother: Eileen Oldroyd, Elaine Rolston, Betty Singh and John Mattson. Dorothea was a most remarkable lady. Born and raised in a tiny village in Northern Ontario, she succeeded in all her endeavours: nurse, political organizer, hospital director and travel agent. Her nursing year book predicted that she had "many miles to go before she slept" - this she did. In addition to her many accomplishments, she traveled to over fifty countries on six continents. But her greatest achievement was her family, the love and care she showed them and their love in return. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Eglinton Avenue East) from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, January 28 and from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, January 29. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in ST. BONAVENTURE'S CHURCH, 1300 Leslie Street on Friday, January 30 at 10:30 a.m. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to the University of St. Michael's College, 81 St. Mary Street, Toronto M5S 1J4 or a charity of one's choice would be appreciated by the family.
