Every single family member has been very special to me. Every single family member has affected my being. There were many things that I learned and integrated into my being by having Imre Bacsi as an uncle. Here are some of these things: -War has extreme affects on humans. We hear stories that show that Imre was such a loving, wonderful young brother- such a beautiful child. He has a personal history. The tortures of war affected him extremely and permanently. I look at the portraits of him when he was younger, and it's hard to put that together with the hardships, ravages, and sadness of what happened to him after that time. -My mom taught us that even if it's hard sometimes, we can't back down on our responsibilities to family members in need, whether it's giving some money for food, making arrangements as necessary...Charity begins in the home. He was someone's beloved child at one time- he was my Grandmother's child, my Mom's brother, my Uncle. That's already worth a lot. -Even if someone has extreme problems, they can still wake up every morning and get dressed up as if it's going to be a full day. Every time I saw Imre Bacsi, he was nicely dressed, and he had some goal to work toward. -Even if someone has some mental problems, they are still feeling human beings. Imre Bacsi has been a personal and human face to mental illness that has made me more understanding of mental illness, and I can further pass this on to my sociology students when we are on the topic of mental health. Solutions to some social issues aren't as simple as for example saying that someone wandering the streets, as Imre did at times, should just go out and get a job. I often have students who don't believe in mental illness, but it's real. -Mom and Jenny, I'm so glad that we helped him out last Oct. with the IKEA project. He had wanted that table for a long time. With love, from his neice, Christie.
