Obituary of Grace Brabazon
Grace Marie Brabazon (nee Derbyshire)
April 18, 1927 - May 27, 2016
After a wonderful long life and a brief struggle with Alzheimer's disease, Grace passed away peacefully. Grace was a loving mother to Claudia Brabazon (John Lavigne), dear wife to the late Claude Brabazon and brother to the late Douglas Derbyshire. She was the beloved aunt to Susan (the late Steven), Barbara (Wendall Clifford), Jeffrey and Glenn (Caroline) Derbyshire, Michael (Lynn) Cooke, Cathy (Rt. Rev. John) Chapman, Shaun (Marie) Brabazon, Steven (Mary) Brabazon, Jack Brabazon, Diane Lisk, Ted Cooke, Chuck Brabazon, and Sandie Braid. Grace was great aunt to many, including her dear Stephanie and Stuart Derbyshire, Amanda Simpson, Ruth Noonan, Amy Castillo, Victoria and Doug Derbyshire. She was a dear and loyal friend to Robin (Patrick) Mars, Shirley and Jim Scott, Lucille Toth, and Gail Power.
Grace was blessed with beauty, elegance, and tremendous self-discipline. In an era of women confined to traditional roles, Grace modelled, and met Claude working for Duplate Canada. Grace devoted her life to helping others, particularly other women struggling with alcoholism, helping hundreds of women achieve sobriety.
The family expresses their deepest gratitude to Edie Gabor for her loving care of Grace, to Dr. Laurie White, her family physician, and everyone at the Arthur Meighan Manor, especially nurses Althea and Arlene, and the Toronto Western Hospital Emergency team for their care in Grace's final hours. Grace would want us to celebrate her life and know that she is at peace.
Donations in lieu of flowers to the Renascent Foundation and the Sunnybrook Hospital Foundation.
A celebration of Grace's life will be held on Thursday June 2, 2016 at 10:30am at the Humphrey Funeral Home, A.W. Miles Chapel, 1403 Bayview Ave., Toronto, ON, M5G 3A8
