Obituary of Rose Drees
Rosel 'Rose' Karla Drees August 26, 1924 - May 19, 2016
Rose died peacefully at Chartwell Scarlett Heights retirement home, surrounded by family, without pain or fear. Rose was the beloved mother of Torsten and Jens Drees; his wife Helen Murphy and loving grandmother to Nicolas, Daniel and Noah Drees.
Rose was born in Sylt, West Germany. Rose left Germany in 1961 to marry and bring up her family in the original potash patch in Esterhazy, Saskatchewan. After a decade in Saskatchewan, Rose moved to Toronto where she remained the vivacious and charismatic leader of her clan. Though Rose left the work environment for many decades, she spent the last forty years of her life working and was still contributing (and driving) at the age of 90. Rose was fiercely independent, a genuine article and a stand-up gal.
Rose loved her children and her grandchildren, her friends and her work. She took pleasure in nature and was always available for help and advice, no matter what issue or the time of day, whether you wanted it or not. Rose was, in all respects, a righteous person and lived her life with integrity and commitment.
The family is very thankful and appreciative for the compassionate, committed and professional care Rose received from Doctor Louie Mavrogiannis of the Dorothy Ley Hospice and from the nurses and support staff of Chartwell Scarlett Heights, especially Dorothy. In addition, special thanks to Rose's family doctor, Harvey Blankenstein, whose care and attention contributed to her well-being for many decades and to Dr. Richard James for his warmth and his compassionate care of Rose's heart.
There will be a private service. For those who wish, donations to the Dorothy Ley Hospice, 220 Sherway Drive, Toronto, Ontario M9A 0A7 ((416) 626-0116) would be appreciated by the family. Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymilesnewbigging.com
