I am not sure what John would think of this -- but I want to mention to Elizabeth and family that I say a special prayer each night for the repose of his soul and for all the members of his family..

I love you Poppy and will miss you, your intimidating questions (especially when they were directed in French), your drive for success, your infectious love and your constant interest in every detail of my life, forever.

We are so sorry to hear of Uncle John's passing. But we are also thankful to have had such a nice visit with him and Aunt Elizabeth last summer in Vancouver. Our thoughts are with you, and all who loved him, at this difficult time.

Though he asked me to call him John, he was always Mr. Yarnell to me. Mr. And Mrs. Yarnell, they were a team, always so kind and interested in people's lives. My condolences to you, Mrs. Yarnell (Elizabeth) and to your family. If there is a great golf course in the sky, I would like to think my Dad was waiting for John on the first tee. Fondly, Ginny

Dear Elizabeth, Ross, and family, We send our caring condolences to you all. John was an outstanding man, a strength in an outstanding family. I regret that we were never close, but we were friends for a very long time. Elizabeth it was always a special pleasure for me when we came into contact with you and John. Ross, it has been a long time, but of course I remember you well, always one of the best. I think we last met when Ross Johnson was in Winnipeg for an honourary degree. I am so sorry that I missed the notice of the reception on Tuesday, and a conflict precluded attendance at the funeral. We share your grief.

Dear Elizabeth, Beth and I are unfortunately unable to get to John's funeral service from Ottawa so this rather awkward means of communicating will have to do. I developed the utmost respect for John during our days at Canadian Arctic Gas. He was an exemplary role model for rookies such as me with his work ethic, his strategic vision, his ambition and his all-round professionalism. He was a force to be reckoned with and brought out the best on one when putting forth ideas. He was certainly a memorable presence in my own career development although he might have thought his example went unheeded much of the time! Beth and I send our condolences to you and your family at your loss. He will be deeply missed by loved ones and by so many who had the good fortune to work and play alongside. Tony Stikeman

To the Yarnell family, Our condolences on John's passing. I have many fond memories of him as I was growing up on the opposite side of Inglewood (including one or two road hockey games). Please know that we are thinking of you. Sincerely, Derek & Wendy McLean

To the Yarnell Family, I offer my sincere condolences at John's sudden passing. I had the pleasure and honour of working with John for over 2 years and I can say, without hesitation, that he was one of the most energetic and professional gentlemen I have ever met. I know he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Bob

Elizabeth, What a shock to read of John's death in today's Globe! One of the highlights of my visits to David and Carol in Florida has been to meet their friends, and the Yarnells were favourites. I had good chats with John, too brief and too infrequent. My sympathy is with you, and the family. Ian
