At a time like this, our hearts and minds are flooded with memories. When Ralph, Lois, Janice and Cameron moved to Toronto, we were so happy to greet them at Knox. The family became part of our social group along with the Walkers. We had great parties playing pool and ping-pong and enjoyed picnics -- they were great fun! Ralph, John and Bill had long discussions about everything. Ralph always had time for a good chat -- his sincerity and warmth will always be a great memory. Lois, Janice, Cameron and family -- as you start a new chapter in your lives, may you find "peace that passes all understanding". Memories are precious. Unfortunately, we will miss the celebration of Ralph's life as we will be out of town. Love and prayers, Ann, Heather, Dawna and Holley

When I think of Ralph, a number of adjectives come to mind: kind, thoughtful, witty, but most of all, gregarious.
He loved to meet people and could talk up a storm with total strangers; a trait that from an older time was called the "gift of the gab". This not only crossed cultural barriers but species as well!
Allow me to explain with 2 examples:
Several years ago, Ralph and I travelled to Dayton OH to tour the US Air Force museum (he had a passion for aircraft). We planned to stay 3 or 4 days in order to take our time and examine each exhibit very carefully and so we booked to stay at the downtown Marriott in Dayton. On arrival there, Ralph quickly discovered the breakfast and dinner buffet (anyone who knew Ralph would be aware of his love of food). It took him less than 5 minutes to be on a first name basis with the buffet chef. This not only resulted in long discussions with her, but I couldn't help but notice the added benefit of his plate not only being larger than the standard table ware and containing delicacies that were not readily available to the rest of the buffet patrons, myself included. By the end of the 4 days, Ralph had not only made a new friend but had also sampled just about every food available in the fine dining restaurant, all without ever leaving the buffet line or, for that matter gaining a single ounce of weight (another famous trait and one which I must say, I found most unjust).
His ability to cross species barriers brings me to the chipmunk story. Chucky, or as Lois called him, Chippy (the only chipmunk I know who has an alias) was befriended by Ralph during one of his many hours spent sitting on the deck in his backyard (another favourite pastime). Ralph not only befriended Chucky (or Chippy if you prefer) by feeding him peanuts, but would look forward to having him sit on his foot while engaging in what could best be described as a very odd conversation. I truly believe that both parties looked forward to this experience. Ralph was disappointed at those times when Chucky didn't appear due to previous commitments.
Ralph was very special and will be greatly missed.

We were very sorry to hear of Ralph's passing. Although we have only a few memories of Ralph and his family, the memories we do have are of a loving, humorous and caring person. I know that my mom and dad, Donald and Marjorie Wallace spoke very fondly or the whole family. We pray for comfort for the family at this time. We know that the good memories of Ralph will help to sustain you all. Love Marcel and Wendy Dion

Dear Lois, Janice, Cameron and all the grandchildren: We are so very sorry for your loss. I personally didnt get to know Ralph that well but what little I was lucky enough to share with all of you was his kindness, sense of humour and love of "licorice allsorts"! Take heart in knowing he touched many lives and his memory will live on with all of us. Tori & Howard Taylor
