Obituary of James Duffield
James C. Duffield
James C. Duffield will be greatly missed. He passed away peacefully in his home, in the arms of his family, on the morning of Friday, May 4, 2012. James was born in London, Ontario, in 1932, to Colin and Geraldine Duffield, and spent his early childhood in London and Port Stanley. His father died in 1934. James, his mother and new stepfather, J. Fraser Coate, WC, moved to Ottawa in 1941 and then to Toronto in 1945, where they remained. He attended Trinity College School and Upper Canada College and received his B.Sc. from McGill University in 1954 and M.A. from U of T in 1958. James was an erudite explorer of science, philosophy, investment, literature and the arts. He was a stalwart supporter of his family and friends' endeavours. His tremendous intelligence, knowledge, and wit touched many; his warmth and gentle nature belied by his towering physical stature. He was a true gentleman. James is survived by his wife, Jane Anne Hart (together for 25 years), his children, Colin, Craig and Ruari, daughters-in-law, Michelle, Aletha and Kayla, grandchildren, Isaac, Lena, Lauren, Anderson and Bethany, his first wife, Judith Anderson-Siegel, Jane Anne's children, Peter Lloyd and Melanie Lloyd-Lewis, their spouses, Karen and Lovett, and their children, Brody, Logan, Ryan and Jordan. A service will be held in GRACE CHURCH ON-THE-HILL, 300 Lonsdale Road, Toronto, at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 11, 2012, with reception to follow.
