On December 27, 2015, in Toronto. Loving husband of the late Velma. Beloved father of John (Connie), Douglas (Janet) and Elizabeth (Paul). Proud grandfather of Amy and Jack. Cousin of Alix and Florence. Uncle of Clark, Leslie, Brian, Mark, Janice, Darcy and Paul. Predeceased by siblings John, Edgar and Marjory (Anderson).
Rae was born January 24, 1921, at Glen Norman, ON. In 1941, he graduated from Queen's University with a B.A. Hon (Mathematics, Economics) and soon began working at Manufacturer's Life Insurance Company. During World War II, Rae served with the Royal Canadian Air Force as a navigator, earning a Distinguished Flying Cross. He returned to Manufacturer's Life in 1945, and worked there until 1985 when he retired as vice-president.
In 1953, Rae moved to Thornhill, ON. He was a member of the Clan MacLeod Society and enjoyed Scottish country dancing, Tai Chi and walking. In retirement, Rae became involved with a number of organizations, including Canadian Pensioners Concerned and the Alliance of Seniors. Since 2010 he lived at The Claremont Retirement Residence. Rae's family is grateful to the caring staff there, as well as Carmen and Rosa.
A Service of Thanksgiving for Rae's life will take place at HOLY TRINITY CHURCH THORNHILL, 140 Brooke Street, on January 30th at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at St. Andrew's United Church, Dalhousie Mills, ON, at a later date.
