Obituary of Anka Kelman

ANKA CORNELIA BARBERA KELMAN (nee van Gool) August 4, 1919 - April 30, 2012 Anka passed away peacefully on Monday afternoon to join her beloved husband Frank (2007), after a 13 year struggle with Alzheimer's. She leaves her loving daughters, Carla Kelman and Ilona Gamble, and cherished grandchildren, Michelle, Brett and Scott, who are extraordinarily blessed to have had such a kind, warm, and caring Mum and Gran. Anka set a proud and strong example for her family, leaving the Netherlands over 66 years ago to follow her Canadian soldier, she embraced life in Toronto and at the cottage on Four Mile Lake. Anka's strong spirit, consummately impeccable manners, delicious cheese sauce and many hours at the Science Centre with her grandkids are the cherished memories of her family and friends. While we will miss her here, we are happy to know she and her beloved Frank are reunited (making shortbread and square dancing together again). She is survived by her sisters Lies Schippers (Netherlands) and Tieny Kesber (Luxembourg). She was predeceased by her brothers, Anton and Piet van Gool, and her sisters, Gre de Bruyn, Marguerite and Jeanette van Gool (all of the Netherlands). A Funeral Mass to celebrate her life will be held in ST. ANSELM CHURCH, 1 MacNaughton Road on Thursday, May 10 at 11:00 a.m. We would like to express our deepest thanks to the nurses and personal support workers at the nursing home for their care of Anka the last five years. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimers Society of Ontario (http://www.alzheimer.ca/en/on/Get-involved/Donate) or a charity of your choice.
