Obituary of John Power

POWER: John (Jack) On Tuesday, April 24, 2012, John Power, recently of St. Andrew's Residence, Chatham passed away in his 94th year. Son of the late Michael Power and Irene Donovan of Toronto, brother of the late Loretta, Rosemary, Donna, Pat, Charlie, and Michael. Predeceased in December by his beloved wife Frances (nee Weaver). Dear father of Michael (deceased), Mary, Cathleen (Jim Lanthier), John (Dayle Buller), Daniel (Katherine Apostol), and Rosanne (Timothy Baker). Loving grandfather of Michael, Nicholas, Sarah, Matthew, Dylan, Brendan, Kaitlyn, and Nathaniel. Great-grandfather of Zachary, Keiran, and Braedan. John was born and raised in Toronto and later served as a Radar Mechanic in the RCAF from 1942-45, during which time he was posted overseas to England and Scotland. Following the war, he married his long-time sweetheart Frances. John completed his Bachelor of Commerce at Sir George Williams University in Montreal leading to a life-long career in accounting. His work took him from Montreal to Burlington, Ottawa, and Kitchener. John's real passion was a love of music, inherited from his musician father. He spent many hours at the piano, playing and composing, also taking up guitar and ukulele in his 80's. John loved nothing better than socializing with friends and family, entertaining them with his war stories and jokes. His spontaneity, sense of humour, and interest in all the doings of his family will be greatly missed. A celebration of the lives of John & Frances will take place on Saturday May 5th, 2012 from 2-4 pm at Humphrey Funeral Home, 1403 Bayview Avenue, Toronto.
