Obituary of Mary Goffart

MARY GOFFART (NEE PARENT) 1928 - 2015 On Monday, October 5, 2015, Mary Goffart passed away peacefully, with her husband Lionel Goffart by her side. Loving mother of John and David, she will be sadly missed by them and by her brothers John Willfrid Parent, Frederick Parent and Kevin Parent, and sister Ann Langlais. Mary was born in Presquisle (Maine), attended high school in Portland (Maine) and college at Regis College in Boston (Massachusetts) where she graduated summa cum laude. She attended the University of Toronto where she earned an MA in English literature and successfully completed the related Ph.D. program. She was a kindergarten teacher for three years in the Toronto public school system. For many years, she worked as a volunteer for The Junior League of Toronto and Family Service Association. She was an accomplished pianist and a voracious reader, being for a time a leading member of three books clubs. Her interest in art and culture found satisfaction in her extensive travels with her husband throughout much of the world. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES - NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 13.
