On behalf of my wife Shirley and I, I wish to express our sincere condolances to Nancy's family and loved ones. She was an amazing person who shared so much of her research about the genealogy of the Phinnemore family with me. It was sincerely appreciated. I just became aware very recently of her passing last October 3rd, 2015.
With warmest sympathy,
Terry Murphy

It is with great sadness that I discovered Nancy had passed away. Although we only met several times around housing issues, she impressed me greatly with her vision and mission, deep knowledge, and straight-forward, practical approach. I love the advice of what to do in her memory, and will keep all of those life-affirming, trouble-making, and knowledge-spreading ideas in mind, and remember her. My deepest condolences, Julia

To my dear Aunt Nancy, thank you for the positive influence and memories. In my mind you will remain an example of strong-will and passionate actions. You always encouraged my love for the arts and inspired me to follow my adventurous side. I value our bond through these shared interests and qualities, and I am thankful for your powerful energy and love. Thank you for teaching me the importance of family heritage by supporting my interest in our family's genealogical treasures. I hope to honour this by passing on that history to my future family. I will keep a connection to you through gardening, as you and my mom have passed on that love to me with fervour . . . And if I ever get weird looks for vacuuming insects off of my tomato plants then I will just smile and think of you. I love you and will miss you. Your niece, Amanda

So sad to hear of Nancy's passing. She certainly left her mark on the east end of Toronto. Always looking out for others, unafraid to face challenge and always willing to lend a hand. Thank you Nancy for your guidance and leadership during our time at TEGH. You will be missed.

Dearest Nancy: As Gerry would always say at some poignant moment of a struggle to do good or to move an honourable cause forward, or to state what no one else dared.... 'Well here's another fine kettle of fish you got us into Miss Hawley!' You did good Nancy...real good! May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the hollow of His hand. Dear Gus: She was quite a women, quite the maverick, and a good friend to us. Our most heartfelt condolences are with you and your and Nancy's families. She'll be missed but never forgotten.

Gus and children, Aunt Flossie and Nancy's siblings. It is was sad for me to learn of cousin Nancy's recent passing. We corresponded over the past year as she was putting together a family genealogy book. She was very passionate about her immediate and extended family in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. Nancy is now with the angels watching over all who she loved and cared for. To family, look fondly upon the best memories of Nancy. Thinking of you all. The Hinchey clan in NewWaterford NS also send their love and condolences,

To all of Nancy's family, We are saddened to hear of Nancy's passing. We met Nancy researching Genealogy in Cape Breton. Her warm personality made us feel very welcome and we have kept in touch ever since. Nancy was kind enough to help our son when he moved to Toronto, finding a job for him at her workplace. We were shocked when we heard the news of Nancy's passing . Its been a very tough couple of years . We thought she was moving forward while dealing with the side effects of treatment . To the end she was doing all this stuff , planning things etc.,. Getting out & about . She was my little sister & we always had this cerebral jousting in a friendly way . I can't believe she has passed - we'll miss her & all the nutty stuff she'd come up with , may she truly rest in peace .

We are so sorry to hear of Nancy's passing, Gus and all Nancy's family. We shared a number of adventures for several years including The Rupert Hotel Coalition and the development of Ecuhome Housing. Whatever Nancy became involved in was an intense and driven series of events which always had a significant positive outcome for those in need. Nancy's energies are a loss for sure, but ones which leaves us with many memories of when we too, shared a vision to help and succeeded! Thank you for touching our lives Nancy. No one deserves a more well deserved rest.

I am sorry to learn of the passing of Nancy. She worked as an assistant to me during some of the time that I was Mayor of Toronto in the 1980s. Her knowledge about social issues, her compassion for the marginalized and vulnerable were of great value in developing City policies, particularly when it came to the provision of affordable housing. She dedicated her life to these causes and many are the better for her efforts. Nancy, you made a difference.

I had the pleasure of meeting Nancy some four years ago at an Home Ownership Alternatives Annual General Meeting. There was a connection. We followed up our meeting by having lunch a few months later at Gerrard Spaghetti House. We had a wonderful time that day getting to know each other and sharing experiences. She was a trooper and force to reckon with and was taken from this world in her prime. To Nancy's family I wish you peace and comfort during this sad time.

I am so sorry for your loss, it is especially difficult with Nancy being so young still. She was a remarkable person, generous, smart, funny, kind, and hard working. I would attend the purchasers' meetings at Neighbourhood Concepts full of trepidation, not knowing a thing about condo development / builds. Each and every meeting, for over two years, I came away feeling reassured, calm and trusting Nancy explicitly. I knew she was fighting for us and sometimes fear she gave her life for us. Our world is a duller place for her light not shining with us anymore.

Gus and family: We loved Nancy and I have many great memories of her. I have been sharing stories with Joan Higgins over e-mail for the past week. Nancy was a great lady and a great friend. We would talk about everything. I really connected with her when we first met back in the 1980's and we loved to talk politics. I think about the times and the talks that we had over the years fondly. I will cherish forever the last big visits we had together that summer before she became ill, hanging out in Little India, working on my family tree and eating pizza talking about living in the country. We were so fortunate to have her as our friend. Please accept our condolences.
