Dear Michael, We regret that we were unable to attend your funeral mass in Toronto on Monday. Even more we regret that we will never have a chance to sing together with you again. We would have loved to have sung for you along with the congregation one last time at your mass. We won't forget your passion, power, professionalism and generosity as a fellow performer. You inspired us to be and do better. Your time with us was a gift and we will treasure it always. So honoured we got to hear you sing one last time in Hamilton along with Boris Brott and the National Academy Orchestra at Mohawk College. Even more delightful than your singing were the warm hugs and smiles after your concert. You were one of a kind Michael. You are deeply missed. Heaven's Choir has one amazing tenor section now! With love from your Hamilton Sopranos, Pamela Blackwood-Marques and Lyla Miklos

Bill Burgess, I have lost contact with you but I often think of you and your family. Your kindness in contacting Michael and get Janet and I and our spouses tickets to the NAC to see Les Miserables is still fresh in my mind. You and Michael were very kind , Michael phoned our hose and talked to Margaret and made the arrangements for the tickets. We were seated in the 3rd row centre beside some of your relatives. I can remember Michael at one time looking dpwn at us and smiling. This showing is very memorable and through the media I folowed his career
From our conversations at the area office I felt that you were very proud of your family and of Michael (Wally)

Michael was a jewel in the Canadian music world and his voice will be sorely missed. He was a generous performer and no town or event seemed too small for him to put on a concert. And his Jean val Jean transcends all others. His brother Bill and I were at Sarnia Northern together. My sincerest sympathies to you, Bill, and to all the family at this time. Arlene

I know your heart is broken as you all say goodbye to your ' bigger than life brother' . I recall you and Michael singing together at a fund rasier in Ottawa and the audience was spellbound.
May his voice and inspiration light your heart and soul as you write him a song. He'll harmonize with you from heaven.

My heartfelt sympathy on the loss of an exceptional talent and even more exceptional human being. Michael was so generous with his time and talent and he will be dearly missed. I had the great fortune to see him in concert many times. He once invited us down from the balcony to fill empty seats closer to the stage, and later generously stayed to sign autographs. He donated his time and talent to raise funds for the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital in my community. He and his music will live forever in my heart

Because of Michael's performance as Jean Valjean in Les Miserables he opened up a whole new world for me and I became a huge fan of musical theatre. I was fortunate to see him in various concerts over the years and play hockey with the Old Timer's when they were in Oshawa. I was lucky to be able to speak to him a few times. He was always so nice to me! I have so many amazing memories! I will never forget you Michael! Condolences to your family. Rest In Peace.

Michael & I became friends in many shows in theatre at Ottawa and Tent Theatre in Gananoque & Kingston. We both travelled to Toronto to make our fortune in theatre in 1967. My sister Cathy boarded us while we did our search in the big city. I remember when we went to see an agent & she looked at Wally & said "My, we have some baby fat to lose, don't we?!" I don't believe he ever did lose it. I only lasted a year in TO because of my return to Kingston with my father's illness but Wally went on to big & larger things. I remember when he was at the National Art Theatre in Ottawa & I sent him a beer backstage & wrote on it "Womb to Tomb". He knew exactly who sent it. (We were both in West Side Story, Wally as Tony & myself as Riff. My wife & I travelled to TO to see him in Les Mis and when he came to Brockville, we were in the front row cheering him on. I told him then that I had wished he had made a recording of Les Mis. Of course we have his cd's, so he won't be far away. Our sympathy to the family.

We all know of Mike's tremendous talents as a singer, but as everyone knows his real passion was hockey.
Playing with Mike on the Old Timers tour for 3 years and being a neighbor in the same building , I got a chance to travel with him throughout the province, driving , just the two of us.
I wanted to talk about music, he wanted to talk about hockey
After a couple of my questions he would switch the conversation back to hockey, the Leafs or one of the players that we both knew.
So driving around to and from the games we were like two "Canadian Guys" talking hockey, opinionating on everything in the hockey world and back seat coaching all of the teams.
Most times we would play the game, drive home and finish the night off at one of our condos with a good bottle of wine to celebrate another great day to be a Canadian and play the game we both loved!
Mike, I really miss those moments with you.
You will be missed by me , Ninon and all of your MANY friends

This is one of my Michael Burgess moments, actually, it was my first of many. VPP was the place. Sound check was completed and soon it would be down to the Rotary room for my Lasagna. Michael sat on the edge of the stage, motioned for me to come over, raised his hand for Doug Reilly to start playing. I stood on the floor in front of him and we sang, "Anyone Can Whistle". After we finished Michael tapped my shoulder and motioned me to look behind me. My son was standing at the back of the theatre. Michael as the song says, " relax, let go and fly". God has brought you home and I will hold on to my memories till we meet again.

RIP Michael, you will never be forgotten, our loyal, treasured friend. Always upbeat, made our day when you called, and you always seemed to know when I needed to talk to you. Countless performances at the Canadian Baseball HOF, including a benefit concert at Kitchener's Centre In The Square, and you wouldn't even accept gas money. You knew I couldn't sing a lick, and so you agreed to sing my wife Paula's favourite love song "Con te partirò" to her on her 40th birthday! Your accomplishments were truly world class and will be deservingly well-documented, but you did so much good, and were so charitable away from the spotlight!! My heart goes out to all of you at this most difficult time. I knew Michael for many years as the Director of the SunnyView Children's Choir. Michael recorded and sang with this choir of physically challenged children for the Variety Club Telethon many times. We developed a strong and enduring friendship during this time that continued for many years. I valued his talent, his genuine desire to help others and his sincere love of people. He would come to the school and spend hours to ensure that the children were seen in the best light possible. He made the event about them and not about him. I loved Michael and will never forget him. His gift to the world will remain as a lasting reminder of what a good and gentle man he was. Rest in peace Michael. Love never dies.
