Obituary of Leida Oks
OKS, Leida (1923 - 2015)
It is with sadness we announce the passing of our mother on September 4, 2015. Predeceased by her husband Osvald (February, 1999).
Born in Estonia, she emigrated to Canada in 1949 with her husband and two young sons. Having lived in Finland and Sweden, the family eventually settled in Toronto. Mom enjoyed life in Canada. Raising her family and participating in the Toronto Estonian Community and attending St. Peter's Estonian Lutheran Church.
She had exceptional cooking abilities and her Estonian foods she was most proud of - her pink "Rosolje" (served at Christmas and special occasions), sauerkraut soup and her sweet raisin breads were a delight. Knitting, crocheting and sewing were all passions for her. She enjoyed making up her own patterns as well. She is survived by her children Toivo (Ruth), Peter, Sara (Ron) and Ken (Kathy). Vanaema (Grandma) to Kimberley (Sean), Teresa (Rob), Tony (Krista), Tim and Shannon (Ryan), Melissa, Brandon and Ryan. Great-grand children Alyssa, Gavin, Mackenzie, Allison and Ava.
At this time we would like to thank all those involved with Mom's care at Harmony Hills. She was feisty to the end and at times quite a challenge; but, she was treated with respect, professionalism and loving care.
