Obituary of Brigita MacCarthy
It is with a grieving heart that we announce the passing of Brigita MacCarthy (nee Neimanis). Brigita was born April 7, 1935 in Riga, Latvia. She had a wonderful childhood alongside her older sister Inga (Wyman) living a happy, secure childhood until war broke out and eventually the family had to seek refuge at a Red Cross refugee camp before making their way to Toronto, Canada as excited new immigrants. She arrived in Canada as a 12-year-old child and grew up in the annex area of Toronto where she later met and married, at age 27 her beloved, James Francis MacCarthy from Ireland. The two of them created a loving, fun home for their three daughters, Mary (Scott), Denise (Mike) and Renée. They have three grandchildren: Cameron, Jordan and Austin who fondly remember their grandma. Brigita passed gently, at home surrounded by all her family, in the early hours of September 5th, 2015. The family would like to thank The Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care and all the caregivers who tended to her so gently.
The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES - NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 4 - 8 p.m. on Friday Sept 11th. A funeral mass will take place in ST. MONICA'S ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, 44 Broadway Avenue, Toronto, on Saturday Sept 12th at 1 o'clock.
