Obituary of Helen Furlong
Helen passed away peacefully and without pain, with grace and dignity, at home on Friday September 4th at the youthful age of 92, an age she made look easy and worth aspiring to. It's hard to imagine life without Mom, she was blessed with a sensibility unique to her generation, positive in the face of adversity, stoic, always looking on the bright side of life, frugal and fun, able to feed tall boys with a single roast. Mom believed in family, friendship and food and whether you were family or not you were always made to feel welcome and well fed. Affectionately known as Rhoda by her very close family, Helen, wife of 46 years to the late and loving Harry JM Furlong was predeceased by her brothers, Jack, Larry, Ed and Bill as well as dear sister Marg. Mom will be sadly missed by sons Tim, Brian and John and beloved grandkids Riley, Maeve and Aidan will miss Nanny's enthusiastic style and wonderful cooking. Rhoda was blessed with a tremendous sense of humour and surviving sisters of the Hunter clan Ester, Kay and Theresa along with so many cousins and too many friends to mention feel so fortunate to have had Mom in their lives. We take comfort knowing Mom will forever be looking down upon us all with love and laughter in her heart. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES - NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9. A service will be held in the chapel in OUR LADY OF PERPETUAL HELP CHURCH, 78 Clifton Road, Toronto, on Thursday, September 10 at 10:30.
