Obituary of Katarina Matasich
MATASICH, Katarina (Katy)
Katy passed away peacefully at Bridgepoint Health in Toronto, on Saturday, August 22, 2015, at the age of 83, after a long battle with cancer. Born July 4, 1932 in Schumacher, Ontario, she was predeceased by her father Jura (1968), mother Lujka (1999), brother Nick (2001) and sister Mary (2012). Katy is survived by her brother Joseph of Sudbury, sister-in-law Pierrette (Nick) of Sudbury, nephew Christopher (Beth) of Pembroke, and grandniece Mikayla. She had a close relationship with cousins Joseph Grcevic (Olga), Mary Sekulic (Ivica), their children and grandchildren. After completing four years at Schumacher High and one year at Special Commercial in Timmins, she worked for several companies in Timmins. In 1962 Thomson Newspaper Ltd. transferred her from Northern Printing, a division of Thomson, to their head office in Toronto. In 1973 she joined Ryerson Polytechnical Institute, retiring in 1994. Katy started her career as clerk-typist, and continued her education, attaining her Certified General Accountants degree. Katy was an avid reader and had a keen interest in astronomy. She and her sister Mary loved to travel, visiting many casinos through the years. A special thank you to Ida Torlone, a best friend and surrogate sister and mother to Katy during her ordeal. A funeral service will be held at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES - NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29.
