Obituary of Seta Zobyan
ZOBYAN, Seta (Shamliyan) (April 25, 1926 - August 22, 2015) - Seta didn't pay attention to what growing older was supposed to be. In fact, she went the other way, guarding her child's spirit like an old favourite sweater that deserved to be worn to the world proudly and with a mischievous grin. So she wore it, with every animal noise at the dinner table, with every tear for her beloved Bedros shed joyfully and without remorse, with every joke that cut the tension and returned her friends and family to our natural state of loving simply and together. Seta wore this life like an old sweater, and she took it off when she was good and ready. She taught us the art of living, come what may.
Seta passed away on Saturday morning in the home she shared for 42 years with her beloved late husband Bedros Zobyan and her daughter and granddaughter, Hasmig and Amara Possian. She was resilient, sharp, funny and accomplished in her many roles as journalist, interpreter, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be deeply missed by her friends and family, not only Hasmig and Amara, but also her sister, Arpi Meras, and sister-in-law, Reine Zobyan, their many children and grandchildren, as well as her friends and supportive community of caregivers who so enriched her final years.
A service will take place in HOLY TRINITY ARMENIAN CHURCH, 920 Progress Court, on Wednesday, August 26th, at 12:00pm. Interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. If desired, donations to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, 2075 Bayview Avenue, Toronto, ON, M4N 3M5 would be appreciated.
