Obituary of Dorothy Bagnall

BAGNALL, Dorothy Died peacefully on Saturday, August 1, 2015, in her 97th year. Dorothy Cole Bagnall (nee Richards), devoted wife to the late Sidney E. Bagnall. Survived by daughter and ultimate caregiver, Jane, her son Hugh (Sharon), granddaughters Tina (Alfredo Moniz) and Rhonda Lynn, two great-grandchildren Sienna and Karina, her sister Helen Gordon (nee Richards), and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. Born in Highland Park, Nepean Township (now Ottawa), she spent her formative years there, connected especially to Westboro United Church & the C.G.I.T. She became secretary to the exacting principal, D.O. Arnold at Nepean High School, later moving on to work as a reporter at the Ottawa Citizen in the Social Department during war time. Marriage brought Dorothy to Toronto where she continued to acquire many more hosts of friends, especially connected with Greenboro, Wilmer and Wexford Heights United Churches. Her love of cooking and hostessing stood her in good stead with husband Sid's connection with AOTS Men's Glee Club and the United Church Men's Choir which toured coast to coast across Canada. As the family matured, she turned her talents to Grand & Toy where she was an esteemed employee. She also managed to pursue her considerable painting talent which had early beginnings in Ottawa when she was a student of Frederick Varley, a member of "The Group of Seven," and a muse for the Canadian Painter, Barbara Sutherland. Loved and revered by many friends and extended family -- rest peacefully, "Do." The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W.
