Obituary of Hans Sepp
SEPP, Dr. Hans
September 12, 1921 - July 12, 2015
Our father passed away peacefully in his 94th year, surrounded by his family and following a brief battle with cancer. He is survived by Ilme (Kuhlberg), his wife of 69 years, his children Ingrid (Jaak Lupp), Vivian (Philip Wright), and grandchildren Kristina, Alexandra, Katrina, Michael and Kristiana. Hans was born in Rakvere, Estonia and studied at the Universities of Tartu and Hamburg. In 1946, he met and married Ilme in Hamburg, Germany. Following World War II, they immigrated to Leicester, England, while Hans completed his medical studies at the University of Bonn, Germany. In the winter of 1952, they landed in Halifax and settled in Toronto. Hans was a prominent forensic pathologist in Toronto. He was recognized by the Office of the Chief Coroner, Ministry of the Solicitor General, local constabulary and colleagues for his consummate professionalism in dealing with many of Toronto's most difficult cases. He held senior positions in pathology at the Toronto Western Hospital and was Pathologist in Chief at Toronto East General Hospital. Separately, he lectured at University of Toronto and mentored new medical students in his retirement. Above all, Hans is remembered as a true gentleman. He was a leader in the local Estonian community, respected by his peers, loved by his family, and generous to all. A celebration of Hans' life will take place on Friday, July 17, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. (visitation at 1:00 p.m.) in ST. PETER'S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 817 Mt. Pleasant Road, Toronto. If desired, please consider making a donation to VEMU (Estonian Studies Centre) or the Canadian Cancer Society. Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymilesnewbigging.com.
