Obituary of Douglas MacAllan
Born at St. Thomas, March 26, 1922. Died at Toronto Friday, July 3, 2015. Douglas is survived by Grace, his wife for 70 years, his daughter Janet of Oakville, and his son Richard of Toronto. He enlisted in the R.C.A.F. in 1940, serving as a bomber and transport pilot for six years. He was an escaped prisoner of war. After the war he graduated from the U.W.O. School of Business (as gold medalist) and joined Imperial Oil. He worked there, and with affiliates Esso Africa and Esso U.K., retiring as a Vice President of Imperial Oil in 1983. He was active in many business and social organizations, serving with the United Way and as a Director of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, the C.D. Howe Institute, the Vanier Institute of the Family, the Family Association of Toronto, and the Canadian Association in Support of the Native Peoples, amongst others. He and Grace travelled extensively and, after retirement, spent many happy winters at their home at the Meadows in Sarasota, Florida. Doug also was, for many years, a golfing member of the Donalda Club. He was a long time member of Oriole York Mills United Church. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES - NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) for a service in the chapel on Monday, July 6 at 1:00 p.m. Donations in his memory may be made to the North York General Hospital Foundation or the Sunnybrook Hospital Foundation.
