Obituary of George McClure

McCLURE, George Chester It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of G. Chester McClure at Toronto on Saturday, June 27, 2015. He was born at Elliott Station, P.E.I. on May 3, 1923, the son of George and Christina McClure. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Dorothy (nee Fraser) of 64 years; and his nieces and nephews and their children. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers Cecil and Floyd, and his sisters Alicia and Gloria. He served his country in WWII, June, 1942 to April, 1946. He was a pilot with the "Bluenose Squadron," flying Halifax aircraft. His plane was shot down over Frankfurt and he was a German prisoner of war for 1-1/2 years. On the third escape attempt, he reached the Russian lines and from there to the American lines and then back to England. He was a member of the Canadian Air Force P.O.W. Association; the Canadian Branch of the Royal Air Force Escaping Society; the "Caterpillar Club;" the Fort York Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion and of the "Restoration of the Halifax" programme, Kingston. He was Past Master of University Lodge, A.F. & A.M. #496; Past D.D.G.M. of Toronto District 7; Past MWS of the Toronto Sovereign Chapter of the Rose Croix; a 33 Degree Mason and proud Mentor of the "69 Dimensions." He was a member for 50 plus years and elder of Timothy Eaton Memorial Church, and a Federal Civil Servant for 27 years prior to taking an early retirement. He will be sadly missed by his loving family and many friends. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7 in TIMOTHY EATON MEMORIAL CHURCH, 230 St. Clair Avenue West.
