Obituary of Katharine Wendy Fitzgerald Spratt
Wendy died on a sunny afternoon after a valiant battle with ALS. Daughter of the late Jack and Dorothy FitzGerald and sister to Guy Upjohn (Sandra Upjohn). Wendy leaves behind her husband Crawford and their children Jamie (Kierstyn Spratt), Robin (Justin Landry), Susan (Jacob Wachsler) and Charlie, and their treasured dog, Fiddich. She was beloved "Nino" to her six grandchildren: William and Sarah Spratt; Sadie, Oliver and Bryony Landry; Atticus Wachsler; and also to the Spratt, Upjohn and Snyder families. Wendy attended St. Clement's School and the University of Toronto, followed by The Montessori Institute. She was a Montessori Casa teacher for many years. She later attended Seneca College and became a library technician
and subsequently worked in the junior library at Branksome Hall. Wendy was first and foremost a mother to her children. She was also devoted to volunteering in her community, notably at the St. Clement's Church Out of the Cold Program and at New Circles Clothing Bank. In 2012, she was awarded the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Award for Perseverance in Public Service. She loved the arts, regularly attending the TSO, the National
Ballet and the Shaw Festival. She loved to travel, especially to England, Scotland and France, and also loved spending her summers at the cottage in Muskoka. She touched countless lives with her positivity, kindness and generosity, and always maintained her great sense of humour. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, especially her family and friends. We were all made stronger by the courage and grace with which
she lived and died. There will be a visitation at Humphrey Funeral Home at 1403 Bayview Avenue on Thursday, May 21st from 5 - 8 p.m. The funeral will be held at St. Clement's Church, 70 St. Clement's Avenue on Friday, May 22nd at 11 a.m. If desired, donations will be accepted at the ALS Society of Canada.
