Obituary of Judy Farwell
JUDY WADE FARWELL
1938-2015
Judy passed peacefully on Wednesday, May 20, surrounded by family at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.
Survived by Peter, her loving husband of 53 years, and her two children, Sandra (Keith) and David (Stephanie).
Proud and devoted grandmother to Maddi, Nicholas and Luke.
Also survived by her eldest sister, Libby (d-Peter), Judy's identical twin sister Jane (Bruce), and her sister-in-law, Judy Shi (Johnny).
Loving aunt to Linda, Peter, Andrew, Scott (deceased) and Kim.
Predeceased by her mother and father, Nora and Frederick Wade.
Born in Renfrew, Ontario and considered herself 'pretty lucky' to have cottaged with family for many years at Chenaux Heights in the Ottawa Valley.
Judy married Peter in 1961, raised their family and lived most of her life in Lawrence Park, Toronto.
Thoroughly engaged and supportive of her entire extended family, she would do anything for her kids and attended the birth of each of her grandchildren. She was happiest when surrounded by her family.
Active in community through her work with the Junior League of Toronto and the United Church Women - Group B. She also had a career in retail and women's fashion which she loved.
Managed a broad network of both the extended Wade family and many close friends through her associations with the Granite Club, Junior League, University of Toronto and Lawrence Park Community Church.
Loved her dogs almost as much as her children and had several Lakeland Terriers and her current Poodle Shadow.
Judy lived as an insulin dependent diabetic for over 70 years and was an inspiration to others with the disease.
The family is grateful for the world class care and support from Sunnybrook Emergency and the Critical Care Unit there, led by Doctors Paquette and Chapman with their top notch nursing team. Our resident in-family physician, Dr. Bruce Merrick has provided unwavering support. Judy also received wonderful support and care from her diabetic specialist, Dr. Diane Donat and her cardiologist, Jim Dubbin - both good friends that helped to extend her life following her open heart surgery in 2001.
In lieu of flowers, donations to either the Sunnybrook Foundation-Schulich Heart Centre (416-480-4483) or the Toronto General Hospital Foundation-Diabetes Islet & Stem Cell Research Program (416-603-6278) would be greatly appreciated.
Visitation will be held Sunday, May 24 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. in LAWRENCE PARK COMMUNITY CHURCH, 2180 Bayview Avenue, Toronto. The funeral service will be held in the church on Monday, May 25 at 2:00 p.m.
