I'll always remember my Dad telling me that when he was a bachelor he would go to J.J.'s place and they would have Swiss Chalet together on Monday nights. And what do you do? I asked him. We insult one another, J.J. complains about my cheap scotch, and I complain that he has no taste, and it's great fun, he said. I was horrified. Why would you insult each other? I asked him. My Dad said, It's just something guys do when they love each other. I finally understood male bonding. I chuckled every time I thought of those two crusty old bachelors squaring off over their quarter chicken dinners on Monday nights, so glad they had found each other. KWXO

The End of An Era We are saddened to read of Joe's death out here in Victoria. He made a positive difference in my business career; shining a scathing beacon through storms that rocked my boat. I loved his Jesuit stories and kindnesses as well as his business acumen. Chicken pot pies at his club peppered with pithy wisdom . God Bless all those he's left behind . And The Angles Sing !

There were a few people in the Canadian landscape of commercial brokerage who literally "changed the game" and brought a high degree of performance and professionalism into the asset class. Mr. Barnicke was the Leader of this group and many of us owe the opportunity that we enjoy today to him. We offer our deepest condolences to family and friends.

My late father, Don Love, recounted when he was starting Oxford Properties and living in Edmonton, that when he would visit Toronto, Joe was kind enough to offer him a free office and showed him around. Dad learned much from Joe - about buisness, and about life, and about key ingredients for success; inspiration, persperation and creativity. Joe was a legend - larger than life.
My deepest condolences to the family. Such a special man will be missed us all.
