Maureen Morrison

Obituary of Maureen Morrison

MORRISON, Maureen It is with a heavy heart that the family of Maureen May Morrison announces her passing on Friday, April 24, 2015 after an eight month valiant struggle following a massive stroke, and a courageous few years of dealing with Alzheimer's. Predeceased by her mother and father Cyril & Clarice Hammerton, she is survived by her loving daughters Heather (David O'Reilly) and Robbin (Rob Wheeler), her brother James Hammerton, her niece Marisia, nephew David, her many cousins in England, and her five cherished grandchildren - Ben, Emily, Alexandra, Grayson and Samantha. Mo was born and raised in Sheffield, England where she later came to Montreal with her brother and parents. She married and settled there, then moved to Toronto to be closer to her daughters and grandchildren, making this her final home. Maureen was an exceptional person, developing countless friendships with all those she came into contact with. She was friends with people of all ages, and was never one to miss a good dinner party - especially if it meant having her daughters' friends over. She was the epitome of all things good and true. She was a devoted animal lover and big supporter of many animal welfare causes. She loved feeding the birds on her balcony, and was a loyal cat owner for most of her life. She was a deeply devoted mother and grandmother "Nana Mo" - making each truly feel that they were equally special and equally loved by her. Her family wishes to extend a big thank you to the staff at Toronto East General Hospital who helped ease any suffering in the last days of Mo's life. We would also like to thank her many friends (both local and overseas) for being compassionate and supportive throughout her life, and also during that last eight months. We couldn't have done it without you. Special thanks go out to Bella & Gigi, Mo's caretakers and "angels" throughout the last several months. At her request, there will be no funeral, but a private 'celebration of life' will take place in May. A time and place have yet to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations to Zoocheck Canada, in her name, would be most appreciated. Until we are united again, take good care."
