Obituary of Audrey Abbey

Born in Winnipeg, daughter of James McKinnon and Gladys Graham. Died suddenly on Holy Saturday, April 4 2015. Audrey was predeceased by her beloved husband Douglas. Cherished mother of Susan and Patricia (Thomas Bertoia). Adored nanna of James, Charles, Henry, Emma, and Annabel. Audrey graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in Nursing in 1947. She worked as a nursing educator from 1947-1988 at Toronto General Hospital. Audrey exemplified the central roles of a nurse - she was a caregiver, teacher and passionate patient advocate. She was a role model for her daughters and their friends with her ability to have both an accomplished professional life and a happy home life. Audrey was known for her incredible kindness and quiet elegance. Her meringues were the centerpiece of every party or fundraising venture. She had a wicked sense of humour and a unique capacity for delighting in beauty. Audrey was the centre of her family's life, she adored children and her many beloved dogs. She was a founding member of the Franciscan Church of St. Bonaventure. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will be held at THE FRANCISCAN CHURCH OF ST.
