Obituary of Marianne Hood

Marianne Nora Hood (nee Woelfle) Marianne passed away peacefully at North York General Hospital on Monday, March 16, 2015, in her 81st year, surrounded by her family. She was the loving mother of David (Rosemarie), Brad (Stephanie) and Ryan (Eva). She was the cherished grandmother of Patrick, Katie, Michael, Daryl, Tori and Becca, and the great-grandmother of Ellie and Finn. Marianne will be remembered with much love and fondness by her family, lifelong friends, neighbours, church congregation and bridge club mates. She was born and raised in Kitchener to Clayton and Marie (nee Simpson) Woelfle. As an only child, Marianne was adored by loving parents, aunts, uncles and grandparents. She developed a love of reading and learning at an early age and went on to receive a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing after graduating from high school. She began her nursing career and a year later moved to Windsor as a young bride and then later to Toronto to raise her family. While raising her three sons as a single mother, she went on to earn her Masters Degree in Adult Education and Counselling from the University of Toronto and, at age 65, ten years after retiring, she received her Masters of Divinity, also from the University of Toronto. Marianne enjoyed a long and successful career as a nurse, a health science professor and co-coordinator at Centennial, Seneca Colleges, and Toronto General Hospital and as a student chaplain at the Hospital for Sick Children. She led a full life as a dedicated mother, life long learner and volunteer. All who knew her will remember her independence, organizational ability, hard work ethic, religious conviction, and detailed and sharp mind. Marianne's resourcefulness and love and devotion to her family and friends are an inspiration to us all. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W.
