I am thinking of Alison today on the occasion of her memorial, and wishing very much that I could be there. I knew Alison first through the PEN board, where her wit and generosity made a powerful impression on me. I loved visiting with her and hearing her colourful stories. She was an inspiration to me for living a big life. My deepest sympathy to all her family and friends.

We enjoyed Alison's wit and intelligence. We met through the Bob Rae Broadview Greenwood campaigns. Alison and Jennifer Rae lived together. Our 2 teenagers were babysitters for Jennifer's children. They both came home with many stories from Alison and about Alison. They adored Alison. She gave them each a lot of personal attention. Alison was one of a kind. Our condolences to her family and intimate friends. She will be missed.

On behalf of all of us at Westwood Creative Artists, I want to convey our most heartfelt condolences to Alison's family and friends. Alison was one of those great people who always made you think, and who always made you come alive. Her great generosity of spirit, razor sharp wit, and zest for life will be fondly remembered, as will her terrific writing.

I am so sorry for your loss. Alison's quick wit, sharp intelligence and keen sense of humour are irreplaceable. But it is her great kindness that I will miss the most. I met her years ago through the Crime Writers of Canada and was dumbstruck at seeing my novelist and journalist hero up close - but she was so down-to-earth and incredibly supportive. Nobody could have been more generous. She also played a huge role in PEN Canada and writers everywhere will miss her piercing intelligence, her pragmatism and her cheerful, unstinting commitment to making the world a better place. I didn't know Alison well but I admired her deeply. I always felt as if she saw all world's flaws and failures but embraced life anyway and strode ahead, grinning, seizing every chance with both hands. Again, I am very, very sorry for your loss.

Deepest condolences to Alison's family on their loss. She had a terrific wit and zest for life that made her a treasure. I first met Alison when she did a brief stint at the Financial Times of Canada and enjoyed discussing mystery novels with her. She will be greatly missed.

I'm so very sorry to have lost a dear friend in Alison who was my "Plover" mate in so many birding treks. We first met in the North West Territories sharing a bunk. That was the beginning of a long and rewarding friendship. My deep condolence to the Gordon family and especially dear Desmond whom I got to know through pictures and stories shared by Alison. She was wonderful, witty, full of laughter and very talented. I'll miss her greatly.

We are very sorry to hear about your loss. Alison was a strong spirit, bright, funny and always surprised me. The few times I hung out with her, the conversations stay with me; you can't not know her. She filled the room. She was as genuine as people come. Our most heartfelt sympathies during this sad time. Love to John, Cynthia, Desmond and the whole Gordon clan. -Marvin Hinz
