Dear Mary-Beth, Lenny and Maya:- Stanley has been on my mind in the past few days almost as if he was poking me in the ribs (quite typical of him!) and then the notice came from the Humphrey Funeral Home today that one year has passed since he "moved on".
He is seriously missed and yet it still feels like only yesterday that we said our goodbyes; I guess that`s how a strong personality can even warp time!
On this one year memorial date I sincerely hope that sadness takes a second
place to your rejoicing in the powerful legacy he has left.

On behalf of my parents and the Gould family in Stratford Ontario I pass on our condolences. We have many fond memories of his trips to Stratford in the 60's and 70's to adjudicate at the Music Festival. We all enjoyed his warmth, friendship, fun. I remember several visits in which Maribeth and Lenny came along - many years ago, brings back many good memories. I know my parents always valued his friendship over the years. What a wonderful man! Love Isa and Duncan Gould, Janice, Carol and Steven

Stanley and I were very close first cousins. I remember when I went to the TSO and he was featured that evening. I drove him home from the concert and told him how proud the Solomon and Rogow family were of his accomplishments.

To niece Mia, Maribeth, and Lenny, My trips to Toronto to visit Mia, gave me the opportunity to enjoy Sammy's company and zest for life... and what a life! He was a lovely person, husband, father, and friend to so many. Remember Mia, when we hung all those photographs of Sammy taken with well knowns from around the world? He was thrilled to be surrounded by those visual memories and we had so much fun doing it. Sammy's talent, stories and wit will certainly be missed. You are in my thoughts...peace and love, Aunt Joanne

His was a life well lived! The Toronto musical community owes a great to debt to him for his contributions in support of Canadian music. Mr. Solomon was the dedicatee of my father, Godfrey Ridout's Ballade for Viola and Strings, written in 1938. They were good friends in their youth, and my father's admiration for his playing was life-long.

Maribeth, send you my warmest wishes on the passing of your remarkable dad, who was the heart and soul of the TSO for so many years, and whose good spirits and warm advice I received in those difficult days of revival and restructuring. The Raes and the Solomons go back a long way - Jackie knew Stan through RCAF musical days, and Saul did too when he was in Paris during and after the war. Your dad was a good man and I am sending you a big hug. Much love from all the Raes, and from Arlene and me.

Hello Solomon cousins Although we were not in contact over the years, my father, Ralph Roger (formerly Rogow, the son of Mary Solomon and Ben Rogow) was very fond of Stanley, and stayed in touch with him until his very early death at age 55 in 1978. Here is an excerpt of a letter he wrote home to his family from Paris while serving overseas during World War II: "8 June 1945, Monday afternoon, June 4, I went to hear Glenn Miller's band. I almost dropped, when coming out of the theatre because I ran right into Stanley "Red" Solomon, the violinist in the RCAF. We went up to Alex's for supper and had a swell time chewing the fat". The Alex he refers to is his brother Alex Roger who was serving with the US Army and also in Paris. When I last saw your father in 2005 at the Solomon Family Reunion, he told me the same story, and with the same details. There was a busker trying to earn a few pennies by playing a fiddle and he was doing a lousy job. Your dad stepped forward, took the violin and drew beautiful sounds from it, drawing a crowd. My father, hearing the music, looked and saw it was his cousin Stanley. It was wonderful to hear the same story in 2005 that my father told me in my youth. I am sorry that Stanley is gone and hope that his rich life and the memories it created will provide comfort in years to come.

Dear Mia, Maribeth & Lenny, Please accept my sincerest condolences to you and your families for your loss. Stanley was truly one-of-a-kind--a generous and upbeat person who went out of his way to help people feel comfortable. As my trusted stand partner for many years in the TSO, he was always supportive; I learned so much from him. He was a devoted family man--proud that his kids had followed in his footsteps as musicians. He will be missed. Even to this day, I can still hear him leaving the hall after concerts with his iconic, "G'night everybody!!" Rest in peace, Stan.

I played viola many years beside Stan on the same desk till about mid-60s when I left the professional world to play and sing my own concerts with my husband in over 50 countries. Sometimes I even subbed for Stan. He was always such great fun, and a real tease. I saw him for the first time in many years about 5 years ago when he played in the small orchestra for my daughter Elana Watson doing Gershwin songs. I have been living for the most part in Jerusalem for 40 years and am a vibrant supporter of Israel, even though I am not Jewish. Stanley was one of the many Jewish musicians I knew who instilled in me my love for this people. Rest in peace, dear friend!

Stanley was an excellent teacher, who challenged and inspired me. I was his pupil for 4 years at the Royal Conservatory of Music and the University of Toronto Faculty of Music. His influence continues to this day. He was generous and encouraging to me, and always an exemplary violist. Very much missed.
