James Malcolm

Obituary of James A. Malcolm

MALCOLM, James A. Jim died peacefully in his sleep at The Claremont Retirement Residence on Saturday, January 24, 2015 after 92 years of what he termed "a really wonderful life." Jim is predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy (nee Barker), his daughter Deborah Thornton, and his son-in-law Frank Brinkhof. Jim is survived by the last of the seven brothers and one sister, Kenny Meleskie, his daughter Karen Brinkhof, his son-in law Lorne Thornton, his grandsons Brett and Blake Brinkhof and Colin Thornton and as well as three great-grandchildren Dakota, Hunter and Seanna Thornton. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Jim was a Lancaster pilot in WW2 and carried on to have a long illustrious 43-year career with Dominion Stores, retiring at 61 from the position of Senior Vice-President. He and Dorothy went on to enjoy a wonderful fun-filled retirement by splitting their time between Florida and Vineland. Jim had spent the last seven years at The Claremont where he was lovingly taken care of by Arlene and all the other wonderful staff members there. Jim appreciated them all - every single one of them. We, his family, are most thankful to them too. Jim was a lovely man who made the most of his life and always gave everyone a fair shake. At Dominion he was known as "Gentleman Jim" - I can't think of a better way to describe him. Dad you had a great run. After a private cremation, a reception to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, January 30 at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES - NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. If desired, and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Arthritis Society. Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymilesnewbigging.com.
