Obituary of Joseph D'Addario

JOSEPH (JOE) D'ADDARIO It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joe, peacefully at home, on Saturday, January 24, 2015, at the age of 92. Predeceased by his loving wife Alina 22 years ago, his parents Carmela and Antonio, his brother Oreste and sister-in-law Gemma. Devoted father to Anthony D'Addario (Laura) and Barbara Ruhr (Greg). Cherished and proud nonno to Alexandra and Christopher Ruhr and Alina, Celeste and Hugh D'Addario. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his niece Maria Grazia and all his friends. Joe arrived in Canada from Italy in 1951 with a spirit of adventure, a desire to do well and a strong business acumen. Through a willingness to work hard at any job available, he and Alina made a new life in Canada and experienced great happiness and success together. Joe worked for Town Planning Consultants and introduced gabions to Canada, started his own business, and became the president of Maccaferri Gabions of Canada and parts of the U.S. west coast. His expertise in the field took him on travels throughout the world. Dad was an honest, generous and decent man with a great outlook on life and a tremendous sense of humour. His smile will be greatly missed by all. Heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Dad's live-in caregiver Hansen for his friendship, compassion, care and devotion over the past year and a half. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES - NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 30. Funeral Mass will be held in ST. ANSELM'S PARISH, 1 MacNaughton Road, on Saturday, January 31 at 10:00 a.m. Interment at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.
