Obituary of Mary Jane Taylor
TAYLOR, Mary Jane "Ginger" (nee McKenzie)
March 27, 1930 Beaverton, Ontario - January 21, 2015 Toronto, Ontario
Ginger has gone to meet her Maker and to be with her "everlovin" Gordon who passed away on November 15, 2014. Ginger's greatest delight was her family, which included her husband of 47 years, Gordon, son John (Kimberley Ionson Taylor) and daughter Jane (Don Durno). She was extremely proud of her children and all they had accomplished. She was Gigi to her five beautiful grandchildren - Brooke and Jaime Taylor and Lexi, Isabella and Fraser Durno - whom she loved dearly. Ginger grew up in Beaverton, the daughter of the late Cameron and Helen (nee McCord) McKenzie and sister of the late Nancy Hubbs (nee McKenzie). Friend, aunt, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, volunteer, confidant; Ginger was many things to many people. She was a "fiery red head" who didn't beat around the bush and followed her own path, which was always in the classiest of ways. While being witty, intelligent, determined, independent, vivacious and opinionated, she was also very friendly and engaged when with friends, family and acquaintances alike. She was a gracious hostess to her and Gordon's many dear friends and that warmth was extended to Jane and John's friends whom she adored. Ginger was active and interested in many things. From her early days in Toronto at Georgina House, working for F. G. Gardiner, volunteering at the Heart & Stroke Foundation/Polo for Heart, member and President of The Current Events Club, to later being an entrepreneur and business owner in Wysong Foods, and a member in The Investment Club and a Book Club. They broke the mould with Ginger and she will be dearly missed by all those who knew her. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES - NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 26, 2015. A Celebration of Ginger's life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 in ST. ANDREW'S PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 73 Simcoe Street at King, with a reception to follow. A Committal Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 28 at the MARTYN FUNERAL HOME, 464 Wyld Street, North Bay with a private interment to follow at a later date. Special thanks to Vilma and Patsy, everyone at Integracare (a.k.a. The Moose to Ginger) and the Palliative Care staff at St. Michael's Hospital. Ginger would never tell anyone where to put their money but if you would like to make a donation in her honour she would be thrilled if you consider the Children's Aid Foundation, the Palliative Care Unit of St. Michael's Hospital or another deserving charity of your choice.
