Over twenty years ago I worked for Patrick Sheridan as the office's quirky receptionist. Pat's demeanor was like my dad's. Pat would often ask me to get bacon tomato sandwiches and I wouild secretly tell the lady to butter 'one side' of the sandwich instead of two. Pat never figured it out.

Dear family,
Its hard to say what Pat meant to me as there are so many things about Pat that made him special. I see a lot of Pat in his sons and I do know that no matter what he made a strong impact on many peoples lives and legacy will live on...not just the business man but the father, husband and friend to all. The most important memory was when my mother Sally died and he took me around the PDAC that next year. His kindness ever since I will never forget.
Hugs to all of you,
Lisa

Always practical and provocative, "no mining project is worth it if you can't drive to it in a Cadillac" or "if your hike in search for a mine is beyond the shadow of a telephone pole, you have gone too far". Great memories of you with your family. Hans

Very sorry to read of Pat's passing. I met Pat through Peter Walker at the Cambridge Club in the early days. Learned a lot about backgammon and wagering on squash matches from him! Over the years we kept in touch, either at the Cambridge, HI's, or even in Church! - his grandson and my son were being baptized on the same Sunday morning! We had quite a chuckle! Pat was definitely "one of a kind" and he will be missed.

Tribute to a Great Man: Mr. John Patrick Sheridan “Senior” I feel compelled to write this tribute to this great icon in the mining industry. I am reminded by the words of Robert Ballantyne in his epic novel “Coral Island” commenting on the death of a seemingly invincible character asserted that to part is the lot of all mankind and that this world is the scene of constant leave taking. Yet the passing of Senior as I called him has filled my heart with such deep sadness. I first met Senior over 30 years ago at a reception he and his wife Marge hosted at the PDAC. I was part of a group of young mining students. Sometime during that reception Senior sought us out and enquired about our origins. He was particularly interested in how we were coping with our studies and life in Canada. He offered his assistance and asked us to remain in touch and to update him on our studies and progress. I want to pay special tribute to that aspect of the Man. He was always helpful and welcoming to people of differing groups. He had a deep curiosity of diversity. He was always challenging one to observe our world and to look for opportunities to do business and improve oneself. As the years passed he became an advisor to me on many matters and a mentor. I came to regard him in a fatherly manner. He was always willing to listen to my many many situations and can always find some humor in some of them. He always saw the funny aspect of things and I believe that came about because he had a deep appreciation of the weakness as well as the strength of human nature. It was in 1984 after he was approached to look at mining opportunities in Guyana that we began to research and obtain information on the Geology and the mining environment of the country. Some time later he encouraged his son Patrick Junior to undertake further research into Guyana. Today we in Guyana Goldfields are deeply indebted to him for what has become a key development in Guyana. As we gathered to mourn the loss of this great universal asset it provides us with an occasion to celebrate this great man’s life which he has lived as well as the rich legacy he has left us all. In my memory of Senior I take comfort from the words of Longfellow TELL me not, in mournful numbers, Life is but an empty dream For the soul is dead that slumbers, And things are not what they seem. Life is real ! Life is earnest! And the grave is not its goal ; Dust thou art, to dust returnest, Was not spoken of the soul The Lives of Great Men all remind us We can make our lives sublime And departing leave behind us Footprints in the sands of time My mentor has indeed left behind his indelible footprints on the sands of time. It is my belief that the best tribute which we can pay Senior is to pledge to continue and demonstrate what he stood for and follow with his inimitable dedication. I shall miss him. May God keep his family strong and comforted. On behalf of my family, the Guyana Goldfields family and I, we extend sincerest condolences to his bereaved family, friends and colleagues. May his soul always rest in eternal Peace.

I first met Pat in Ireland during the Wild West days of the original Lead/Zinc mine discoveries of the early 1960's. He and his partner Max Juby were instrumental in the discovery of a new era of Lead/Zinc deposits in that country. I have kept in touch with both over the years, and have been inspired by the dedication to mining and exploration of Pat. His loss has left a big void in my exploration career.

Pat and his family were great neighbours to us for many years in Toronto. My Dad, Bob Rose, often told the story of when Pat called the office to speak with Bob, and when asked by the young phone clerk who was calling, he replied in his best British accent, "Tell him it's Prince Phillip calling!" (My Dad had recently introduced Prince Phillip at an UCC Old Boys function and I'm sure was suprised to hear who was on the phone.) They all laughed about that one for years after. It's sad to see another legend of Bay Street pass on, I'm sure Pat and Bob are together now swapping stories and poking fun at each other. My condolences to the Sheridan family. Sincerely, Craig Rose

Most people don't listen. Pat did. He heard the words, thought on their meaning, and then thought some more after the conversation. He did not pretend to understand; he understood deeply through listening. He taught much , not through telling but by giving others a chance to listen carefully too.
So many "nods" and "what do you know today's?", looking for interest always deeper.
Thanks for encouraging thinking in so many.

Dear Mrs. Sheridan, I am very much saddened by the recent passing of your husband Pat and on behalf of the Board of Directors of the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada, our staff and our 10,000 members, I wish to pass along our sincerest condolences to you and your family. The exploration and mining industry has suffered a great loss. Pat was revered not only for his intellect and business savvy but also for his tremendous character and generous spirit. His list of accomplishments was long and his contributions were intensely valuable to our sector. During his career Pat served our industry on many fronts - as a scientist and as a leader in the exploration industry in the early part of his career and then later as a financier and developer. He will always be remembered by those who knew him as a determined, focused man who left a lasting impression on this great industry. His dedication, as well as your own dedication to our association and the industry in general have always been greatly appreciated and will leave a tremendous legacy. On personal note, I will fondly remember Pat as one of the industry’s gregarious personalities. Yes a good name to have

- Those Bushmen with smiles
From the hills of Quebec
- Came Phillippe and Paul.
So that I don't forget
Here is one I knew well,
In Timmins he froze his two big toes,
His name was Max
There are so many more
That woundup with Pat Sheridan;
They did all find something,
Soon they're going over the hill.
