Obituary of Dimitrios Salvarinas
DIMITRIOS (JIM) SALVARINAS
November 3, 1921 - January 3, 2015
Dimitrios died peacefully at Baycrest Hospital after a two-year battle with cardio-vascular disease. He is predeceased by his cherished wife of 52 years, Voulie (Evridiki) Kokkinos; his beloved son, Benjamin James; his six siblings; and his parents, Zisis (Ben) Salvarinas and Aikaterini Alexopoulos. Dimitrios is survived by his children, John and Mary Salvarinas, and Kathy and Sebastian Pelaia; and his four grand-children: Nicholas, Elisa, Evelyn and James.
Dimitrios arrived in Toronto in 1954 with his young family and promptly put his entrepreneurial skills to work operating his two successful business endeavours: Green Acre Farms and Prespa Foods. But by far, Dimitrios' greatest accomplishment and treasure was his family. He was a deeply committed family man who revelled in the growth and successes of his children and grandchildren. Dimitrios strongly believed that with a strong and supportive family, you can accomplish and succeed.
The family wishes to thank everyone involved in Dimitrios' care over his final two years, particularly in his final five weeks at Baycrest. Family and friends will be received at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES - NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 8. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 9 in ST. NICHOLAS GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH, 3840 Finch Avenue East, Toronto. Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery with a reception to follow at The Crystal Fountain. If you wish to make a charitable donation in lieu of flowers, please do so to Autism Ontario, York Region Chapter, 11181 Yonge Street, Suite 215, Richmond Hill L4S 1L2, 905-780-1590, since they have supported Dimitrios' grandson, Nicholas, over the years.
