Obituary of John Thurley
THURLEY, John David
January 18, 1935 - March 30, 2012
It is with great sadness that the Thurley family announce the passing of John. He passed away peacefully at home in Toronto, with his family by his side. Beloved husband of Iris for 56 wonderful years. Loving father of Susan (Kelly) Brown and Stephen Thurley. Will be sadly missed by grandchildren Tara, Jenna, Thomas, Aidan and Rowan. Survived by his sister Helena (Michael) Randell, sisters-in-law Julie and Christine, brother-in-law John as well as many nieces and nephews in England and Australia. John emigrated to Canada in 1956 and worked at a variety of jobs, eventually becoming a chartered accountant in 1967. John was an active member of the Church of the Ascension parish and his faith in God was an integral part of his life. He was well read and engaged with ideas, always enjoying discussions of issues with family and friends. John was a wise, kind and generous individual who touched the lives of many people over his lifetime. He gave loving guidance and comfort to his children and grandchildren. John will be remembered by his family as as exceptionally caring and loving man who will be greatly missed. A very special thank you to the palliative care team from Mount Sinai Hospital for their support, care and attention which allowed John to die at home surrounded by his family. Many thanks to all our friends and family for their love and support. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES CHAPEL LIMITED, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 2. A private family service will be held in the chapel on Tuesday, April 3. A memorial service to celebrate John's life will be held at a later date and details will be announced. In lieu of flowers and if desired, donations made to the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. Condolences, memories and messages may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
