Dear Families and Friends of Janet, I was saddened to read of Janet's death. We met in 1999, when I was the NDP candidate for provincial office in Toronto Centre Rosedale. Janet was an enthusiastic supporter, and worked on my campaign. I enjoyed our interactions during that time, although they were perforce limited given the time constraints of a campaign. In the years following, and as recently as last year, I ran into Janet many more times, and always enjoyed catching up on her activities. She was dealt a very cruel blow by whomever it is that decides who gets cancer, what kind, and for how long. During our conversations, one always had the feeling that she remained in charge of it, no matter what the latest outrage to her body was. After some years away, I am back in the riding, and I shall miss running into Janet on the street and at the social justice events where we used to meet. My condolences to her family and friends.

I knew you for barely ten years; yet, your memory and spirit will live on much longer in my heart. Your enthusiasm and special commitment to justice and peace in the world was exemplary. With your passing, first nations peoples lost an advocate, Kids For Peace, a most active supporter and organizer, York University and the University of Toronto a great teacher and scholar, and I a good friend. Thank-you my friend. Good Job. Well Done.
