Dear Bill, Marielle and family, How sad that we are in touch again as a result of Collette's passing. We have frequently wondered how the Sticklands were getting on after you had moved. We have followed the changes to your former home with great interest and often wondered if Bill had communicated at all with Peter. He and his workmen have been wonderful new 'neighbours', always ready for a tour and an explanation of the latest changes. Even though our families were quiet neighbours, I have many memories of Collette or 'Mrs stickland' as I knew her. I remember her almost daily trips to the shops on Bayview. She had a wonderful smile and was always ready to have a quick word on the street. We were also absolutely enthralled by that lovely accent! Mom and Dad are pretty well considering their age -90 and 94. Mom unfortunately has macular degeneration and misses her books so much. Over the last couple of years she has also become quite hard of hearing so her freedom to go out has been severly restricted. Dad is blessed with great genes and a strong constitution. This May, June we all enjoyed 2 months of Kathy and her son, Morgan, from New Zealand. I managed two trips home, Pat and my daughter, Melissa, came from Ottawa and Chris was available from New Market. It was really a good visit for all of us. I try to return every 6-8 weeks now that I have retired from work. My son, Andreas, is enjoying life as a structural engineer in London England and I am always plotting to get a trip over to England as well. I do hope everyone is well. Marielle, I was surprised to hear that you are now a grandmother! I do hope they are close by. Please pass on condolences from all of us to all of you. Regards, Dorothy, Eric, Janette, Kathy, Pat, Chris and respective families.

I would like to express my most sincere sympathies to the family of Mrs Stickland. I interviewed Colette in 1999 for a academic research I was doing about the French in Ontario. She welcomed me with warmth and humour. I remember being moved at her story as a migrant. Parts of her life as a French immigrant are told in a recent book I wrote ("Avec sa langue en poche... Parcours de Français émigrés au Canada").

Dear Marielle Please accept my sincere sympathy in the loss of your Mother. Although I never met her, I recall, almost as if it were yesterday, a wonderful Sunday luncheon in Paris in 1968 with you, your grandmother and your great grandmother! My own Mother is still alive at 93 and, although she is now in a long-term care facility, I visit regularly and know how much I will miss her when she is gone. With sincere sympathy to you and to your family. Russell Smith (Glendon,1967)
