Obituary of Pamela Gibson
PAMELA GIBSON (nee Mulqueen)
Died at home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, December 16, 2014. She will be so dearly missed by her husband of 59 years, Gordon, her three children, Michael (Lisa Brown), Jenny Whittall (Richard), and Jamie (Jill), and her cherished grandchildren, Eleanora, Emily, Jessica, Nicholas and Harrison.
After graduating from Havergal College, Pam went on to study at the University of Toronto Trinity College. Upon finishing her degree there, she began working at the CBC as a script assistant. It was during this time that she married Gordon Gibson and began the wonderful, magical partnership that would define both their lives. They moved into an old Victorian house on Hazelton Avenue and it became the first of many projects they worked on together. Pam started as a volunteer for the Women's Committee of The Art Gallery of Ontario and developed a passionate interest in art. It was a passion that would enrich both hers and Gordon's lives, and the lives of their three children. During the twenty years they spent on Hazelton Avenue, Pam acquired a degree in teaching and taught history at North Toronto Collegiate. She then got her MA in Art History from the University of Toronto and began working at the AGO in high school education. She worked for the Canada Council's Explorations Committee, was a member of the organizations The Friends of the Visual Arts, and Exploring Toronto. And a volunteer at The Gordon Foundation, yet another group that provides funding for artists. Pam had so many friends, and such a lovely sense of humour, she could really laugh at anything. She was always interested in new things and both she and Gordon had many wonderful times travelling together. Their last great project was their house in the country, where they retired surrounded by the gardens they had both worked to create, and various children and grandchildren. Pam loved animals and throughout their lives there was a succession of Sealyham Terriers; the last of whom was Franny, who remained by her bed during the last days of her life.
Her family would like to thank the incredible caregivers Maricris Sampang, Analyn Conception, Holly Nicoll and Betty McGowan for their kindness and compassion. We are truly blessed to have these women in our lives. Also a special thanks to Dr. Michael Ferrugia.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in TRINITY COLLEGE CHAPEL, 6 Hoskin Avenue.
