Obituary of William Walton
WALTON, William M.
Loving husband of Patricia for 63 years, proud father of Amanda (John Belyea) and doting grandfather of Spencer, Bill passed away peacefully at the Veterans Wing, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at age 96. Born on September 7, 1918 in Abernethy, Saskatchewan, Bill was a proud Canadian who strongly believed in serving and defending his country. With Canada in World War II, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941 and spent the remainder of the war as a bomber pilot in Europe and Africa. Following the war, he attended the University of Toronto (University College) where he met Pat. They enjoyed a full life together, which centred around their family, including summers on Kashe Lake and helping take care of Spencer when he was young. An educator for much of his working life, Bill was always interested in history, politics and sports, especially baseball (the Blue Jays) and football (the Saskatchewan Roughriders). A staunch Conservative, Bill worked actively for the Party for many years and passed on his commitment to both Amanda and Spencer. He will be deeply missed by his family. The family would like to thank the outstanding staff of K3E at the Veterans Wing for providing exceptional and compassionate care to Bill for more than three-and-a-half years. A Service of Remembrance will be held at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES - NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) on Saturday, December 20 at 3:00 p.m. If desired, donations can be made to the Sunnybrook Foundation - Veterans Centre. Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymilesnewbigging.com.
