Obituary of George Haynes

Haynes, George Frederick September 24, 1928 to December 8, 2014 It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of George Haynes on the palliative floor of Baycrest Hospital. George was born to the late Emily Louisa Eastwood and Henry Barber Haynes. He was predeceased by his brothers Henry (Hank) of Port Hope, Edwin (Ed) of Cobourg, Douglas R. of Cobourg, and by his sisters Rose (Mrs. Les Scott) of Kingston and Edna (Mrs. S. Jennings) of Vancouver, and his second wife Lynn. George is survived by his loving wife Kaye, his brother & sister-in-law John and Joan Haynes of Lantz, Nova Scotia and by his first wife Margaret Thompson, of Cobourg. He was the loving father to Andrew (Mary Lou) of Port Hope, Catherine (Jim) of Victoria B.C. and David (Tina) of Toronto and by his step-children Catherine and John McNally and Christine and Andrew Sloss. George was blessed with 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. George spent his early years in Port Hope and Cobourg, Ontario. These were hard times with the Great Depression and WWII. Therefore George was forced to become a businessman from a very early age, doing whatever jobs he could find to bring home money to help his mother. In his teen years George became very involved with the Sea Cadets, rising in the ranks to a Lieutenant. As a young man in Cobourg he went into business with his brothers Ed and Doug and together they founded the Haynes Printing Company. George was an active member of the Kawartha Pine Ridge Lung Association. Later in life he moved to Toronto and went into sales for Atwell Fleming. In his early retirement he built a house on Green River. George loved life and had many interests; scouting, rowing, sailing, coaching girls baseball, golf, building and racing radio control boats, live theatre, music and dance. He was a member of Cursillo and Donway Baptist Church. George helped develop the Footprints Summer Day Camp in Don Mills. George had a passion for knowledge, still eager to learn right up to his death. George also had a vivid memory and enjoyed sharing stories with family and friends. We thank Spectrum Health Care and, in particular, Jennifer Lam for the wonderful care she gave to George over the years. Also we are thankful to NYGH and Baycrest for their compassionate care at the end of George's life. A Memorial Service will be help at DONWAY BAPTIST CHURCH, 235 The Donway East, Don Mills on Thursday, December 18th at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service and a reception to follow the service in the Fellowship Hall. Donations may be made to Donway Baptist Church, Footprints Day Camp, or a charity of your choice. Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymilesnewbigging.com.
