Obituary of Minnie Russell
RUSSELL, Minnie Young
('Rusty')
Feb 3 1921 - Dec 1 2014
A mighty heart has beat its last Predeceased by her parents Alexander and Mary, her beloved husband Robin, and her six brothers and sisters: Alec, Willie (Anne), Bunty (Jack), Janie (Addie), John (Morna), and Doris (Ian). Warmly remembered by sister-in-law Morna, many nieces and nephews, and most dearly by her adoring son Nigel and his wife Jennifer. Minnie was blessed with an abundant heart and imbued with a keen sense of mischief. She was naturally chic and effortlessly stylish. Nicknamed Rusty by her loving verve to carry that name even when her hair had turned to lustrous silver. No son ever had such a wonderful mother. Thank you to all the Parkdale girls and Don Mills neighbours who supported her in the later years. Thanks as well to the staff at Leisureworld O'Connor Gate, Dr Schulman, David MacFarlane, and especially Susan MacAndrew for their compassionate professionalism. At Minnie's insistence, there will be no funeral. Flowers cannot be accepted. Instead, please remember Minnie by being kind to a child, reading for pleasure, or listening to Leonard Cohen's first record. A donation in Minnie's name to the Toronto Public Library or the Parkinson Society of Canada is warmly encouraged. 'God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them.'
