I have been devastated by the news of Dr Pollock's sudden death, which I learned very abruptly yesterday through the Internet. Daniel was a friend since 1972. He had been my first psychiatrist on 5CPS at the Clarke Institute, when he was a resident there. We had kept in touch since. He welcomed me back to Ontario when I moved to Toronto permanently in 1977, he enroled me on OHIP and later on ODSP. Daniel always liked my art and over the years had purchased many of my cards. He particularly liked my series called "Let sleeping psychiatrists lie". His zany sense of humour was a match for mine and we shared many laughs together. I will sorely miss him. I wish you, his family, my deepest sympathies and I am already praying that you recover your serenity after this terrible loss, and that you soon be able to live and laugh with all the very fond memories that he left you. Dearest Elaine & Family: I just wanted to express my most sincere condolences on the passing of Dr. Pollock. I heard the sad news from my mother who telephoned me in New York. Dr. Pollock was a great doctor and a very wise man. I learned so much from him these past few months; he helped me immensely. I'm back in New York now and getting my life back on track but I will always remember his wise words and his lovely sense of humor. I know you must be heart broken by his passing but I hope you can take some solace in knowing that he made a world of difference in so many people's lives. Love Always, Millie

On behalf of the Department of Psychiatry at North York General Hospital I would like to express our deepest sympathies and condolences. Dan spent many years as a vibrant member of our department and provided care to many of those in need in our community. He organized our weekly educational Grand Rounds, organized our annual international speaker conferences and was a valued colleague and friend to many. He gave of himself and will be missed.

We, Dan's classmates in Saskatoon were saddened to hear the news. Our deepest sympathy to Elaine and the family. Dan made our medical school years more enjoyable by his philosophical comments especially in our clinic groups. He will always be remembered fondly for his wit and intelligence. It is with sadness I heard of the death of Dr Pollock via the UT psychiatry news. I worked under Dr Pollock as a clinical clerk at the Wellesley hospital in 1983/84. I enjoyed his teaching. Eventually I went into the field of psychiatry myself. I had the pleasure of being invited out to race on his C&C34 one day out of ABYC. Unfortunately the weather was quite foggy and we never did race. I know the profession will mourn his loss Paul Casola

Dear Kathryn Berge, The name of Daniel Pollock caught my attention in the death notices in the Globe and Mail. As I read the notice I realized that the name was familiar because it was your uncle Danny. It took me back to all those years ago when we were girls in Edmonton and Danny would be at your house when I would visit. I remember very well the zany sense of humour referred to in the death notice. He would tease you to the point of exasperation, setting off both you and your mother. But it was clear how much he loved you and your sister Brenda, a "big brother" indeed. I send my condolences to you, your mother, and Brenda, and to all of Danny's family, on your loss. I remember Dan as a would-be resident in Psychiatry. It was late 60s or early 70s and Dan had a hippie look and dressed accordingly. His smile, casual laugh and rebellious exterior underlay a brilliant minded guy, who was impossible to stump on the practice orals for his Fellowship. I always learned something new from Dan and had the feeling he took what he wanted and needed from me. I usually miss my residents as they go on to better things but especially so when you know they wont be back for their next shift, ever again. Fondly Doug Frayn md
